Part of the Developing Strategic Leadership in Underrepresented Communities Project, this training course is made up of five separate sessions. You will be required to attend all sessions to complete the course.

 

Developing Strategic Leadership in Underrepresented Communities Project

This programme is an exciting opportunity for organisations who want to be more diverse and inclusive, the programme will cover a range of topics like how to have difficult conversations, Cultural competence training, Unconscious Bias and Micro Aggression, how to complete the Cultural Cohesion Quality Mark and some great tool kits and resources to help your organisation become more equitable across all its practices. Your organisation can also benefit from the opportunity of having access to newly trained strategic leaders from culturally diverse communities to sit on their board.

This programme is only suitable for board members or school governors, and CEO’s and senior managers from schools and third sector organisations.

Session 1- Why Diversify? 

This section will cover the barriers faced by organisations who find it difficult to attract diversity onto their board, school governor board or generally in the workforce, particularly in senior roles and on decision making platforms.  And the barriers individuals from culturally diverse communities face when in situations where they may be the only one or in a very limited number in the workplace or on the board, committee or school governing board, we will explore how things can change for the better.

Session 2- Introduction to Cultural Competence Part 1

A look into what is Cultural Competence and why it’s important to understand it and practice it in everyday life, this session will be delivered by an external provider. This session will be covered in 2 parts over 2 weeks of the programme

Session 4- Introduction to Cultural Cohesion Quality Mark

Organisations and schools will learn what is required In the Cultural Cohesion Quality Mark and how to use it within their organisation. You will be required to complete the Cultural Cohesion Quality Mark as part of the programme requirements.

Session 5- What Can You Do Now To Diversify?

Organisations will be given practical tools they can use in the short term to start to create a more diverse environment, looking at what they do now and how they can do things differently to attract diversity to their organisation. Adopting policy changes, creating safe spaces for difficult conversations, looking at recruitment procedures, publicity and some of the step’s organisations can take.

Participants will be introduced to practical tools they can work with like the Micro Aggression Tool Kit other tools will also be introduced, any additional training they can take in their own time like Unconscious Bias, White Fragility and other’s. Equality reports, articles and blogs will be shared with the participants after the programme for their further reading and learning.

 

About the Course.

Zoom Online Training

Participants will need to download the Zoom app on their computer 48 hours beforehand, full details will be emailed prior to the event, including all information on how to access the session.

Please note, this will be an interactive training course and participants may be encouraged to engage in the session. Please have a pen and paper handy.

The training session is offered free of charge, however we would ask that if you are not able to attend, please inform us at least 48 hours prior. This will ensure the place can be reallocated and resources are not wasted.
