Title

Training for Community Care and Food Distribution Staff and Volunteers: Improving Wellbeing and Reducing Suicide Risk for Isolated Men

Description

In Leeds, men are around five times more likely to die by suicide than women. There are deep concerns that the isolation, job losses, illness and bereavement brought by the covid pandemic will result in a increase in mental ill health and suicide. But the army of volunteers and staff that are supporting the most vulnerable in Leeds can provide not basic necessities but a vital lifeline that connects people to the services that will help keep them safe and well during this difficult time.

Using case studies, practice and discussion, the training will cover: from small talk to real change - how to have conversations on the doorstep that make a difference; suicide risk - recognising invitations for help and connecting people to sources of help; keeping yourself safe and well in stressful situations. Anyone attending the training will be able to join follow-up sessions covering other aspects of supporting wellbeing.

This training is provided by Humans Being and funded by Leeds Community Foundation.
