Community Leeds After School Support

Organisation Aims and Activities: To improve the reading, writing and number skills of all school children aged 6 - 14 in order to help raise the achievement, attainment and confidence of children in learning, especially those coming to school with no English and sometimes with no previous educational experience. Year 6 pupils are given special attention because of the SATs tests and the KS3 use specialist subject tutors. The transition from Y6 to Y7 is also helped with the 'easing' into secondary education. While schools been doing thier best in meeting the needs of some of these children it has been found necessary to offer the after school support in a relaxed learner-led environment where children are free to learn at their own pace, while developing self-confidence. All staff and coordinators are volunteers, who run evening classes every Thursday (5.30pm - 7.30pm). Children take initial start-up assessments at enrolment. Groups of one-to-one or small groups.
Open Hours: Volunteers should express interest via email and will be contacted about the next available induction session. Inductions are held during CLASSS teaching hours.
