All Souls Church, Leeds

Organisation Aims and Activities:

An Urban Parish Church serving the local community with a specific interest in outreach to Christians whose first language is not English. There is a high level of lay participation in the leadership of worship which crosses age, gender, social, and ethnic boundaries. The congregation are noted for their warm welcome to new worshippers from all backgrounds. The building was the last one designed by the architect George Gilbert Scott before his death. It lends itself well to hosting concerts, and we are hoping to develop awareness in the local area of its architectural glories. The organ was built by Isaac Abbott, whose workshop was nearby on Blackman Lane. It was built as his 'display model' and, although needing the kind of re-build that we could never afford, it still sounds very well indeed. We also have an excellent organist. We reject all forms of discrimination and welcome everyone regardless of social or ethnic background or sexual orientation.
