The CANA Project was set up by Barnardo's in 1986 and aims to work in urban areas of West Yorkshire, primarily in Leeds and Bradford but also in Kirklees, Calderdale and Wakefield, for the benefit of children, young people and their families. . Barnardo's recognises that churches can have a major role in striving for equality of opportunity, justice and peace across society as a whole and specifically within their local communities. CANA offers an advice, support and consultancy service to church and community groups who are seeking to develop practical initiatives. It also encourages and enables church, community and neighbourhood groups to engage in collective action in response to expressed local needs.
