Friends of Holbeck Cemetery

Organisation Aims and Activities: The Friends of Holbeck Cemetery is a group that was formed in May 2001 by local residents who were concerned about the decline of a local amenity, since when we have been actively encouraging greater public use of the area as an open space and resource. We are keen to preserve the fascinating Victorian heritage of the cemetery and to provide better maintenance and repair. We are also trying to create a valuable wildlife space and make the cemetery a safe and welcoming place. We are working at increasing the opportunity for lifelong learning and to make a stimulating facility for schools and colleges and a wide range of community groups. We hold regular walks and clean-up days, hold social events for our members and undertake and encourage historical and environmental research in the cemetery and surrounding area.Viewing platform with magnificent views over Leeds and beyond. Art work from local school and artist showing history of area in situ here.
