Turning Lives Around

Time limited supported housing and community support services, plus a drop in service for people who are struggling to cope with a wide range of issues that include mental health, learning disabilities, drug and alcohol misuse, offending and domestic violence. The ultimate aim is for people to move into independent accommodation and become socially included.

Turning Lives Around - Carr Beck (Formerly Leeds Housing Concern Carr Beck)

Carr Beck is a 'wet hostel' service that provides accommodation and support for women age 16 and over who choose to continue to drink. The aims of the service are: ?To support women dependent drinkers with individual packages of care and support. ?To enable our clients to regain independence, self-esteem and dignity.

Turning Lives Around - Flagship North East (Formerly Leeds Housing Concern Flagship North East)

offers supported housing in the Chapeltown and Harehills area to single homeless young people aged 16-25 years.

Turning Lives Around - Flagship South (Formerly Leeds Housing Concern Flagship South)

provides fully furnished single bed acommodation and shared housing in one and two bedroomed houses mostly located in the Beeston, Hunslet and Holbeck area of Leeds for young people aged between 16-25.

Turning Lives Around - Seacole Scheme (Formerly Leeds Housing Concern Seacole Scheme)

Accommodation for single homeless young people with varying and multiple needs, in a supportive, healthy and safe environment. It offers young people the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to live successfully in their own independent accommodatin within 6 months.

The organisation is involved in the following programme - 1 To make arrangements for the education and training of Muslim children and youth; 2 To set up reading rooms and libraries and organise lectures, seminars and conferences; 3 To provide social and welfare services; 4 To help students and youths in their activities.

Union of Catholic Mothers - Leeds Diocese

The organisation aims to help others through hospital visiting; taking people to church; help at the over 55's group. Meetings are held weekly and quarterly.

United Beach Missions, also known as The Beach Team, is a Christian charity who operate on beaches across England, Wales, Ireland and Continental Europe.The people who make up UBM teams are all committed Christians, who are giving their time voluntarily to telling people about the Good News of Jesus Christ!

Fundraising and advocacy for UNICEF. UNICEF ensures more of the world?s children are fed, vaccinated, educated and protected than any other organisation. We work in over 190 countries around the world. We have done more to influence laws, policies and customs to help protect children than anyone else in history.

United Reformed Church in South Leeds

The Church provides worship on Sundays and there are various activities during the week.The URC in South Leeds has two sites: Belle Isle (as above) and Oakley View, Dewsbury Road, LS11 5HR, Telephone: 0113 270 3935. Baptisms, weddings and funerals can be arranged. The church, through its Charity company, operates a Centre at each site called Trinity Network which offers social opportunities for older people. At Belle Isle there is a coffee morning on the 2nd Saturday of the month, which offers a social occasion for those suffering from dementia and their carers. There is also a Community Cafe at Belle Isle held on the 3rd Saturday of each month, which offers an opportunity for socialising to members of the public. At Dewsbury Road there is Charity Shop operating on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week. Guides and Scouts meet on Thursday and Friday evenings respectively each week at Belle Isle.

We preach Sikhism, equality, religious tolerance, cultural awareness of various people.

University of Leeds - Access and Community Engagement

If your organisation needs student volunteers then contact us to set up your organisation on the database and we can recruit young volunteers for various roles. We are part of the Vinvolved Leeds team, and therefore have funding to place volunteers aged 16 - 25.

University of the Third Age (Leeds U3A)

The University of the Third Age is a self-help organisation for people no longer in full time employment providing educational, creative and leisure opportunities in a friendly environment. It consists of local U3As all over the UK, which are charities in their own right and are run entirely by volunteers. Local U3As are learning cooperatives which draw upon the knowledge, experience and skills of their own members to organise and provide interest groups in accordance with the wishes of the membership. "The teachers learn and the learners teach." Between them U3As offer the chance to study over 300 different subjects in such fields as art, languages, music, history, life sciences, philosophy, computing, crafts, photography and walking.

Unlimited Theatre

We aim to produce and tour intelligent, new theatre that is funny, subversive, and optimistic in collaboration with like-minded artists and organisations in the UK and overseas so that each and every creative process is one of discovery and transformation. Together we are committed to pushing marginalized voices centre stage and exploring how personal experience can illuminate a wider political debate. Whenever possible, we underpin this work with a dedicated programme of outreach that aims to develop the creative potential of those who participate.

Urban Angels Circus

We create performances with community youth groups and performances by professional performers. Urban Angels shows have an aerial element, this could be trapeze, silks or other performances in the air!

Victim Support Leeds

Victim Support (VS) is an independent charity dedicated to supporting victims of crime and traumatic incidents in England and Wales. Our purpose is to provide specialist help to support people to cope and recover to the point where they feel they are back on track with their lives.

Victorian Society - West Yorkshire Group

Casework committee meets monthly to discuss planning applications involving Victorian and Edwardian buildings in Leeds. Monthly programme of visits to places of interest in Leeds and elswhere.

Visually Impaired Social Club

Meet socially every 2nd and 4th Tuesday currently 6pm in the Merchant outside Merrion Centre. We go on various outings to the theatre, walks, coast, museums, barge or other types of outings as agreed by members. We are a self help group and as such our main objectives are to agree on what we can do to befriend each other

VOLITION

Volition is an alliance of voluntary sector organisations that either provide mental health services for or work with people who have mental health needs in Leeds. Volition exists to: * promote the contribution of the voluntary sector in strategic planning and development of services; * encourage co-operation and partnership between agencies and across sectors; * inform and resource voluntary sector organisations to enable them to better meet the mental health needs of the people using their services. Volition has over 90 members from all areas of the voluntary sector providing services to people in Leeds. Members include agencies that directly provide mental health services as well as those who have an interest in mental health.

Voluntary Action Leeds (VAL) provides support and advice to third sector organisations across Leeds.

Wade's Charity

Providing and maintaining open spaces within the pre-1974 Leeds city boundary, for the benefit and recreation or health of the inhabitants of Leeds.

Wah Kwong Chinese Association

Wah Kwong Association aims to help the poor and elderly of Chinese origin - or indeed anyone who is of Chinese origin who needs help. Our organisation has got some volunteers who can help, please contact Mrs. Chan on 07732 934511.

Wave Mums

We're a volunteer-run group offering peer support for all mums experiencing mental health difficulties. Our fortnightly stay-and-play session gives mums a space to come for a cuppa, space for babies/children to play, and space for them to talk freely. By encouraging openness and honesty, we aim to facilitate friendships and support to help women navigate parenthood.
