Yorkshire Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament

Yorkshire Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament actively works against the development, testing and use of nuclear weapons across the globe. We need volunteers to carry out a wide range of tasks from helping at public meetings and demonstrations to processing merchandise to data entry to research. We are one of the UK's leading organisations campaigning against the US Missile Defence programme and organise major demonstrations, conferences and events in Yorkshire and across Britain. Our campaigns are entirely peaceful and we aim to educate, raise awareness and influence. In all our campaigns we aim to persuade through the strength of our arguments, through effective action and through non-violent protest.

Yorkshire Cancer Centre

Yorkshire Cancer Centre is the fund raising arm of St James's Institute of Oncology. We help raise funds for all areas of the Institute and are based in the building itself. We have a variety of volunteer roles available including becoming a part of our sales team in our Charity Shop located in Bexley Wing, a Promotions Officer or even providing Office Support.

Yorkshire Cancer Research is Yorkshire?s cancer charity and we are dedicated to helping local people beat cancer by supporting world-class research. Our Mission is to develop new scientific knowledge that will save lives through earlier diagnosis, prevention, and better treatment of cancer. We focus on getting that knowledge from the lab to the patient. We ensure that Yorkshire remains a centre of excellence for cancer research and treatment, attracting and retaining world-class scientists and clinicians. We work in partnership with other charities and organisations to achieve the greatest impact in the global fight against cancer. We aim to become one of the most efficient cancer charities in the UK.

Yorkshire Centre for Eating Disorders Carers Support Group

The Group offers support to carers of sufferers of eating disorders (mainly Anorexia and Bulimia). This includes the provision of information and sharing of experiences.

Yorkshire Congolese and African Association (YOCAS)

We provide assistance for the integration of our members into UK society in terms of education, parenting skills, training, job search and opportunities and cultural activities. We are designing and editing the magazine LA Diaspora Africaine for our members and wider community in order to promote the business and activities of african community within UK (Yorkshire and Humberside area).

Yorkshire Countrywomen's Association - Thorp Arch and Walton Branch

The Yorkshire Countrywomen's Association promotes, education, friendship and fellowship between all their branches across the county. Also linked to the countrywomen across the world. Branches usually situated in Villages and meetings are arranged once a month. Most branches have outings and holidays and trips to museums, Country Houses, etc. As the name suggests we are an organisation for women, although husbands help when needed. We also support various charities.

Yorkshire Dance

Provides a selection of dance classes and courses for a variety of people of ages and abilities; provides consultancy and guidance to professional dancers; develops a strategic remit for dance in the Yorkshire region; works to develop audiences for dance within the region remit to develop a regionwide youth dance programme in partnership with Youth Dance England.

Looks after the interests of members -Ex-Servicemen's association, including Ex-Wrens, etc; new members always welcome.

Yorkshire Heraldry Society

Lectures and visits on heraldry and genealogy. Annual journal - Aspects of Heraldry published March/April. People with all levels of expertise welcomed, beginners as well as experts. Subscription ?8 per year, visitors (non-members) pay ?2 per visit. Lectures usually illustrated by slides. Heraldry is history Illustrated but also has many modern uses, from pub signs to army badges to Schools and College Arms. Come and learn!

Yorkshire Humberside & Lincolnshire Circles of Support & Accountability

Yorkshire, Humberside and Lincolnshire Circles of Support and Accountability is a community response to sexual offending, working in partnership with criminal justice agencies. Our mission is to reduce the risk of future sexual offences by supporting individuals who have committed sexual offences previously, thus keeping the community safe and creating no more victims "Circles build safer communities through local volunteers working with sex offenders to minimise alienation, support reintegration and so prevent sexual reoffending"

Yorkshire Kidney Research Fund

Founded in 1970, the Yorkshire Kidney Research Fund supports research into the problems associated with all aspects of kidney disease. Active throughout Yorkshire and benefiting kidney research on a national and international basis, we rely entirely on donations, voluntary support and legacies to help us fund groundbreaking work. Some of the areas we're currently funding research in are: Investigating causes of poorly developed kidneys in babies; Ways to reduce the infections dialysis patients suffer from their dialysis catheters; Investigating whether the bladder changes the composition of urine after it is made; Investigating the way in which cells from the kidney die or survive in response to disease states; Optimal way to treat anaemia, a very prevalent complication in kidney patients which causes severe fatigue and reduction in quality of life; Investigating a condition called Dialysis-related Amyloid. Yorkshire Knanaya Catholic community is for those who practice the Catholic faith and follow endogamy. The main aim of this community is to work for the social, cultural, and community development of Knanaya people. Also to promote family unity, education and enpowerment of women. Also, this community acts as an institution to meet the social and welfare needs irrespective of place, race, and community.

Yorkshire Mediation Services

Mediation services across Yorkshire, YMS offers mediation to neighbours, helping them resolve differences and disputes in a positive, impartial and confidential way. It is a voluntary process. YMS work alongside different organisations and mediate in community disputes, workplace disputes, with potential homelessness and can offer training in conflict resolution.

Yorkshire Mesmac

Sexual health organisation working with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGB&T) communities to tackle underlying causes of physical and mental ill health. Yorkshire MESMAC?s counselling service is available for gay, bisexual and men who have sex with men; female partners of men who are attracted to men; young LGB&T people under 25, in Leeds Bradford and Wakefield districts, and for lesbians of any age in Bradford.

Yorkshire MESMAC - Counselling Service

Yorkshire MESMAC is one of the oldest and largest sexual health organisations in the country. Our historical focus is HIV prevention and sexual health promotion with Gay, Bisexual and men who have sex with men. Additionally our Community Development approach means that we are concerned with the wider Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGB&T) health, social and equity agendas. We work with LGB&T communities to tackle underlying causes of physical and mental ill health and to challenge those structures and systems that seek to exclude us from decision making.

Yorkshire Philatelic Association

To affiliate all philatelic societies in Yorkshire and adjacent areas, to hold annual conventions, to promote exhibitions and competitions within the affiliated societies, and to generally promote philately in Yorkshire and adjacent areas. Annual convention. We have about 20 societies within Yorkshire and details of these are on the YPA website.

Yorkshire Schools Exploring Society

YSES runs expeditions for young people (15 - 19 years) who are resident in Yorkshire who attend school or college in Yorkshire. Expeditions are mainly to wilderness areas of the world. Youngsters must raise funds themselves, but are offered advice, support and training.

Yorkshire Ship Enthusiasts

This group is for all people interested in ships of any kind as a hobby. We hold meetings indoors (slide shows/talks, etc.) at the O'Niells Bar, Great George St, Leeds LS1 3DL (behind the Town Hall) at 7.30pm on certain Thursdays from September to March, and we arrange trips to docks, etc. from April to November each year. We issue four Newsletters a year. Membership is ?10 per year. We are also willing to give slide shows to other local groups.

Yorkshire Volunteers' Regimental Association - Leeds Branch

The members of the Yorkshire Volunteers Regimental Association perform the various functions, including social and welfare, of a Regimental Association and provide a resource for research into military history. For details of meetings in your area contact the organisation or visit the website. The Leeds branch hold their meetings on the first Tuesday of each month. Yorkshire Volunteers Regimental Association - Leeds Branch is actively supporting a Leeds based programme assisting former and serving members of HM Armed Forces, and others, who have experienced post-traumatic stress and other conditions.

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is a local charity working to create a Yorkshire rich in wildlife for everyone. The Trust believes Yorkshire should be rich in wildlife for the benefit of everyone with more wildlife, more wild places and more people having a strong connection to nature. The charity was established in 1946 and is part of The Wildlife Trusts movement.
