Talk English is one of the projects we deliver at PATH Yorkshire. This project is to support people with low levels of English to improve their language skills, access services and get more involved in the community. It helps them to improve speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. There are regular activities for people learning English so they can meet others, practise speaking English and do something fun and different. . The current Talk English phase started in April and will finish at the end of March. Through this time we aim at engaging with around 250 learners. A number of classes will be delivered in community venues across Leeds. The Talk English classes will be delivered by fully trained and supported volunteers. For this role we are looking for volunteers who are:

Willing to commit to teaching once a week (two and a half hour class) for 4 months .

Willing to attend and complete 15 hours training course (ususlly split between two days) and attend additional training sessions as required.

Volunteers will need:

· At a good level of English

· Good verbal communication skills for effective interaction with learners

· Good written communication skills to produce good quality learning materials

Volunteer ESOL teachers will be expected to: Prepare for teaching by:

· Attending an induction session and initial training session

· Completing a bespoke training course Liaise with a fellow volunteer to co-teach one session of ESOL a week during term time in a community setting.

You will be expected to:

· Assess learners to identify if they are Pre-entry or Entry 1

· Enrol learners onto the course and complete the benchmarking form to identify learners’ levels at the start of the course

· Plan and prepare learning materials and activities

· Facilitate individual, small group and whole group activities

· Assess learners’ performance and work · Review learners’ progress towards learning targets

· Record learners’ attendance, retention, activity and achievement

· Review the benchmarking form to identify learners’ levels at the end of the course

· Refer learners to other aspects of the Talk English project, advice and guidance and other services as appropriate during and at the end of the course

Throughout the project you will be expected to:

· Participate in training opportunities as required

· Through personal example, open commitment and clear action, ensure diversity is positively valued and communicated

Where the volunteer is disabled, every effort will be made to supply all the necessary aids, adaptations or equipment to allow them to carry out all the duties of the role.

This volunteer role involves greeting clients as they arrive for their counselling and therapy appointments, distributing petty cash for travel receipts, and assisting therapists with booking rooms on our internal system. It will also involve keeping the therapy rooms tidy and organised and keeping the communal kitchen area tidy.

Looking for route marshals to support the Leeds Half Marathon on Sunday 12th May.
Route Marshals are positioned along the route, where you will experience the buzz of the event. You will have the privilege of cheering on the runners. Some Route Marshals will be situated on road junctions to ensure no unofficial vehicles access the route whilst the event is taking place. Each section will be allocated a Senior Marshal who will be on hand to assist Route Marshals.

Befrienders will support the Resettlement Team by befriending individual resettled refugees. Volunteers will enable refugees to become increasingly independent by facilitating integration into the local area. The volunteer will work from the refugees’ home, but has the opportunity to visit places, shop together etc. Volunteers must be able to meet once a week, for three hours, for at least 6 months.
