Yorkshire Agricultural Society For more than 150 years, the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, a charity that exists to promote farming and the countryside, has helped support those living and working in rural areas, assisting progress whilst never losing sight of the value of our heritage. Yorkshire Animal Shelter We are a small rescue and rehoming centre for stray, abandoned, sick, injured or unwanted animals, dealing with all animals except dogs. All our animals are neutered, vaccinated and microchipped prior to rehoming. We currently have cats and guinea pigs for rehoming and a horse, a pig, 4 sheep and 2 hens who are permanent residents. Volunteers must be over 18 and have access to a car as public transport is unreliable. Volunteers normally work one shift a week or fortnight. Shifts start at 9am Monday-Sunday and last for a couple of hours.
Yorkshire Archaeological and Historical YAHS is a charity established in 1863 to encourage the study of Yorkshire's past, both archaeological and historical. We run lectures and day schools and work closely with many other voluntary groups in the heritage sector across the historic county of Yorkshire. Our library and archive collections are now kept in the Brotherton Special Collections, University of Leeds. Yorkshire Kidney Research Fund Founded in 1970, the Yorkshire Kidney Research Fund supports research into the problems associated with all aspects of kidney disease. Active throughout Yorkshire and benefiting kidney research on a national and international basis, we rely entirely on donations, voluntary support and legacies to help us fund groundbreaking work. Some of the areas we're currently funding research in are: Investigating causes of poorly developed kidneys in babies; Ways to reduce the infections dialysis patients suffer from their dialysis catheters; Investigating whether the bladder changes the composition of urine after it is made; Investigating the way in which cells from the kidney die or survive in response to disease states; Optimal way to treat anaemia, a very prevalent complication in kidney patients which causes severe fatigue and reduction in quality of life; Investigating a condition called Dialysis-related Amyloid. Yorkshire Schools Exploring Society YSES runs expeditions for young people (15 - 19 years) who are resident in Yorkshire who attend school or college in Yorkshire. Expeditions are mainly to wilderness areas of the world. Youngsters must raise funds themselves, but are offered advice, support and training.
Yorkshire Ship Enthusiasts This group is for all people interested in ships of any kind as a hobby. We hold meetings indoors (slide shows/talks, etc.) at the O'Niells Bar, Great George St, Leeds LS1 3DL (behind the Town Hall) at 7.30pm on certain Thursdays from September to March, and we arrange trips to docks, etc. from April to November each year. Youth Point An information and support service for young people aged 13 - 19 years who live in NorthWest Leeds. A drop-in service operates from 3.00pm-6.00pm on Mondays and 5.30-7.30 pm on Wednesdays. Individual appointments can be made outside these hours. We also deliver drop-ins, focus group work and participation and learning opportunities in various schools, community buildings, youth settings and on the streets of NW Leeds. Youth Point is a Connexions Access Point and young people from across the area can access 1-2-1 support from the PA team in various settings. We provide free condoms, chlamydia and pregnancy testing for young people, and run health drop-ins. We can support young people in setting up projects, steering groups, or events and accessing funding. The following opportunities are also available: Arts Award, Alternative Education, Accredited Training, Volunteering Opportunities, Counselling, Slipstream to Upstream (project for young people who are workless for up to 12 weeks).
Youth Theatres Leeds Youth Theatres Leeds is the small local charity that runs East Leeds Youth Theatre and South Leeds Youth Theatre. We place professional theatre practitioners in local communities to encourage the young people who join to find and use their talent. We encourage our members to think for themselves and see themselves as creative decision makers. We use drama to explore the many different themes that the members find interesting. We create performances about the stuff that is important to our members. We go on trips, sometimes to the theatre, or galleries, sometimes bowling and ice-skating.

We have now set up ZigZagLeeds C.I.C. to run a community second hand shop, all the profits from which are fed back into the running of the ZigZag Leeds support group.
