St Matthew's Church - Chapel Allerton St Matthews is the C of E parish church of Chapel Allerton, and is involved in various community activities in the parish eg providing holiday clubs for children and lunches for elderly people . Street League We engage young people through the Power of Sport. Sport teaches teamwork, leadership, discipline and competitive spirit ? not only beneficial on the pitch, but also essential for the world of work. At Street League we deliver employability services held together by the power of sport, offering a growing range of activities designed to appeal to different groups of disadvantaged young people. Sport is integral to making Street League work ? it brings people together, enables them to feel physically and mentally healthier, teaches key skills like discipline, communication and team work, and is one of the most powerful engagement tools when working with hard to reach young people. We are focussed on helping our young people achieve sustainable change in their lives. We strive to be efficient and effective in everything we do, ambitious for Street League to continue to grow and have an even greater impact in eradicating youth unemployment. Young people come to Street League in various ways, usually referred by unemployment offices and other social services outlets, youth workers, the probation service or through word of mouth. During this time our staff develop a relationship with the young people and begin to talk about their aspirations with the intention, when an individual is ready, to join an Academy course. This process lasts two months and although classroom-based, sport remains an integral part, and gives ?students? the skills and support they need to progress into education, training or work, with the support of Street League.
Streetwise - Love Leeds We exist to provide on-going support for adults who are homeless, living in poverty or who simply need a sense of belonging and friendship. We work with similar organisations that share our mission and aim to provide information and guidance to those who access the drop-in. We open every Thursday between 7-8:30pm and provide food, hot/cold drinks and where possible clothing. Support After Murder and Manslaughter SAMM offers understanding and support to families and friends who have been bereaved as a result of murder and manslaughter, through the mutual support of others who have suffered a similar tragedy.
Supporting Others Through Volunteer Action (ISB Bail Support Scheme) SOVA volunteer's mentor adult defendants as part of a structured bail support scheme, providing practical support in the local community to assist in their compliance with the scheme. SOVA volunteers can help defendants with various tasks, including attending appointments and court, accessing training, education or employment, sorting finances and other practical and emotional support. Volunteers can volunteer at times most convenient to them, but are expected to offer a minimum of 2 hours commitment per week. Mentoring takes place within Leeds.
Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide (SOBS) Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide supports those who are left behind following the suicide of a family member or friend. We offer a national helpline 9am-9pm, every day of the year on 0300 111 5065. We offer local groups around the country. The nearest to Leeds is the Bradford Group, which welcomes people from all areas of West Yorkshire, including Leeds. We also offer support days and residential retreats at several venues around the country.
Survivors West Yorkshire Survivors West Yorkshire (SWY) is a survivor led and focused service for male survivors of sexual violence, including childhood sexual abuse. Our accredited service offers “Ben’s Place” online counselling, emotional support, and information signposting. Sylvia Wright Trust The SWT is a registered charity which supports the work of Sylvia Wright among the sick and disabled in the Indian State of Tamil Nadu. Sylvia sold her home and possessions in Leeds over 30 years ago to work in this very poor area of India. Over the years, Sylvia has built and established a modern hospital, a school for deaf children, two centres for severely disabled children as well as running vital community health projects. She opened a Nursing College in 2009 with an intake of 20 students a year. The Trust comprises enthusiastic and committed volunteers who raise funds to support this work. There are no paid staff and 97p in every ?1 raised goes to support Sylvia's projects. Our website summarises the work that is going on and invites support. The SWT is founded on Christian principles and is supported by people of many different faiths.
