Leeds Youth Opera Leeds Youth Opera is unique in the region, throughout Britain and internationally with members from a wide variety of backgrounds, who are aged 12 to 25 and are drawn from schools, colleges and universities in and around Leeds. They all share a passion for opera, and their commitment in combining a strenuous rehearsal schedule with their studies and daily lives is to be commended. The portfolio of past productions is impressive and includes traditional, light and modern operas as well as British. Productions are carefully chosen to ensure the whole company is involved as much as possible in the creation of the opera both in the chorus and in principal roles. For many of our young performers we provide training and a platform for a future in music and the theatre. For all of them, we provide an opportunity to work as part of a team to create something very special. We hope their time with the group will instill in them a lifelong love and appreciation of the performing arts.
Leeds Zen Group We're a member of the International Zen Association UK (IZAUK) which is affiliated to the International Zen Association, founded by Master Taisen Deshimaru. Zen is not a philosophy or religion, but a practice and an attitude to life. The word Zen comes originally from the Sanskrit 'Dhyana', which can be translated as concentration, observation, meditation. Central to Zen is the practice of zazen - simply sitting, not grasping at the thoughts and emotions that arise within us, just allowing them to pass by. Through this, we become aware that many of our everyday preoccupations are not so important, and that clinging to them brings suffering to us and to others. The mission of IZAUK and its member groups is to facilitate and promote the practice of zazen and the teachings of the late Master Deshimaru by providing opportunities for the practice of zazen at weekly meditation sessions as well as at regular zazen days and retreats (sesshins).

Lineham Farm Children's Centre Lineham Farm Children's Centre provides free week-long holidays for over 1,200 disabled and disadvantaged children every year. They are chosen by their school and are given the opportunity to spend a relaxing week in the countryside, having a well earned break from the stresses and strains of inner city life. Lister Hill Baptist Church Lister Hill Baptist Church in Horsforth is a lively, friendly church, worshipping and celebrating our faith in a contemporary, informal way at our two main meetings each Sunday at 10.30am and 6.30pm. Ages range from a few months to the mid-80s with many young married couples with children. There is a large, thriving Sunday School that runs at the same time as the main morning service, with children staying in for the first half hour or so, and both Sunday School and church finishing at around 12.15pm. Most of the church and congregation is drawn from the Cookridge, Horsforth, Rawdon, Yeadon, and Ireland Wood areas. Some folk come from further afield than that. We have a wide range of activities that take place either on the premises or in homes in the area, including: House Groups; Adults and Kid's Football; Youth Cell Group; Mums and Tots group (Little Rainbows); Dance School; Line Dancing; Weight Watchers; BGs Youth Club.

LS-TEN Ls-Ten was recently set up after the closure of The Works Skatepark. By extremely popular demand a number of people have come together and volunteering to get the skatepark and facility back up and running and provide the community with a service and facility they need and deserve. The team at Ls-Ten have been working day and night to get up and running and its almost there. We are always in need of help, whether its donating time, money, items, we need it all. Ls-Ten runs a huge indoor skatepark open to the public on evenings and weekends, along with schools groups accessing the facility on a daily basis as alternate PE lessons. Along with PE lesson LS-Ten runs an alternate education setting for young people.

Luv2MeetU Luv2MeetU runs social events in the community for people with learning disabilities. Our activities include day trips, evenings out, going to the theatre, bowling, movies, karaoke and much, much more. As a volunteer you will have the opportunity to come along to events, support the group, socialise and have fun! You will be fully supported by a member of the Luv2MeetU staff at each event, and some volunteers are also supported to run their own outings in the community, independently of staff.

Making Space - Waterhouse Court Making Space provides support to people experiencing mental health difficulties. In Leeds, we offer a befriending service, where volunteers offer support to people who are socially isolated due to mental health difficulties.
Manuel Bravo Project (The) The Manuel Bravo Project is a charitable organisation which helps asylum seekers who are unable to find adequate legal representation. The Project is volunteer-based with barristers, solicitors, law students and other individuals volunteering their time. They seek to complement our legal advice by referral to and working with other organisations serving asylum seekers.

Mary's Meals The idea of Mary?s Meals is very simple. We feed children a daily meal in their place of education. This encourages children to come to school and receive their education which is so vital to their hopes for the future. Many children in the developing world don?t go to school because they have to work to find food. By giving these vulnerable children a daily meal, we are helping break the cycle of poverty and giving them hope. We started in Malawi in 2002 feeding 200 children in a small primary school. Thanks to the unbelievable generosity of our supporters, we are now feeding more than 1.2 million hungry children EVERY school day in their place of education in 14 of the world?s poorest countries. On average it costs just ?13.90 to feed a child with a meal every school day for a year, and thanks to most of our work being carried out by volunteers, at least 93p of every ?1 donated is spent directly on our charitable activities.

Mencap Inspire Me Inspire Me provides practical activities, training and community learning to give young people aged 14-25 with a learning disability the opportunity to build their confidence and learn new life skills. It is designed to add value to young people?s learning and engage young people not in education, employment or training in a creative and innovative way. Inspire Me aims to engage young people through our core workshops focused on improving young people?s confidence, life skills and employability. Each workshop tangibly incorporates action planning and goal setting. Our specialist team can deliver multiple workshops to learners enabling them to gain a wide variety of different skills and learning outcomes that set each learner in good stead for their future. Our workshops are always accessibly tailored to group needs and a personalised learning approach is always maintained throughout delivery.

Mid Yorkshire Fungus Group The Mid-Yorkshire Fungus group was established in 1993 to explore and record the fungi of Mid-Yorkshire (within a 30 mile radius of Leeds). We organise public forays to interest members of the public in fungi and to promote the conservation of fungi. We hold group forays on most weekends in the Autumn. At our regular indoor meetings we have identification and microscope sessions and talks on many aspects of fungi: from how to recognise them to how to draw them or make paper from them! We're a small and friendly group with experts, beginners and those in between. We welcome all new members.
